I started Hunky Dory with a view to undertaking consultancy work, but increasingly I was being asked to write about early years and primary school issues, and this eventually led to my latest incarnation as a lecturer in higher education. With eleven years inspecting early years under my belt, and my current roles as chair of a rural pre-school and a primary school governor, I have an in-depth knowledge of the care and education landscape. I have a regular column with Teach Nursery magazine, have written for a variety of other early years publications, and am involved with the Save Childhood Movement and their #TooMuchTooSoon campaign. I am a founding member of Ex Inspectors for Early Years; as it says on the tin, we are ex inspectors concerned for condition of the early years sector and the state of British Childhood.
My current research interests include school readiness, school starting age, early years curricula, the Troubled Families Programme, and pedagogy within the changing higher education landscape.
